Gate valves should be installed horizontally or in the direction required by the design, ensuring that the valve stem is vertical or within the allowable angle range to avoid obstruction of gate movement. During installation, pay attention to the flow direction markings and avoid reverse pressure, as this will reduce sealing performance and accelerate component wear. For flange connections, ensure bolts are tightened evenly; for welded connections, control heat input to prevent valve body deformation or damage to the sealing surface. Furthermore, provide sufficient operating and maintenance space for future maintenance and component replacement.
Avoid improper force during operation. Gate valves should ideally be used fully open or fully closed, and should not be used as throttling devices for frequent partial opening and closing to prevent high-speed erosion between the gate and seat, which can damage the sealing surface. Open and close smoothly, avoiding sudden force to prevent stem bending or thread damage. For large or high-pressure gate valves, use appropriate reduction mechanisms or power drives to ensure controllable operation. Before reactivating valves that have not been used for a long time, manually test them to ensure there is no jamming before putting them into regular use.
Regular maintenance is essential. Establish a patrol inspection system to check the valve body for leaks and corrosion, and the valve stem and packing gland for damage, replenishing or replacing lubricant as needed. Regularly clean and inspect the sealing surfaces for wear and tear, and repair or replace them as soon as possible if wear or damage is found. During pressurized maintenance, strict isolation and depressurization procedures must be followed to eliminate potential safety hazards.
